For which mechanisms the first step involved is the same ?

A. E1 + E2
B. E2 + SN2
C. E1 and SN1
D. SN1 and SN2

¨       In both E1 and SN1 mechanisms, the first step involves the formation of a carbocation intermediate through the departure of a leaving group. In E1, the carbocation is formed as a result of the loss of a leaving group and is followed by elimination of a proton to form a double bond. In SN1, the carbocation is formed as a result of the loss of a leaving group and is followed by nucleophilic attack by a solvent molecule or nucleophile to form the product.
