Sum of exponents of molar concentration is called___________________?

A. Order of reaction
B. Molecularity
C. Rate of reaction
D. Average of reaction

¨       The order of a chemical reaction with respect to a given reactant is defined as the power to which its concentration appears in the rate law expression for the reaction.

¨       For example, if the rate of a reaction depends on the square of the concentration of reactant A, then the order of the reaction with respect to A is 2. The sum of the exponents in the rate law expression gives the overall order of the reaction.

¨       Thus, the sum of exponents of molar concentration is called the order of reaction.
