What is the product of the oxidation of a 2° alcohol ?

A. Aldehyde
B. Ketone
C. Carboxylic acid
D. Ester

  1. Primary alcohols: primary alcohols can be oxidized to form aldehydes and then further oxidized to form carboxylic acids.
  2. Secondary alcohols: secondary alcohols are oxidized to form ketones.

Tertiary alcohols: tertiary alcohols cannot be oxidized under normal conditions since they do not have a hydrogen atom attached to the carbon bearing the hydroxyl group.
