A. Alcohol

C. Glycerine
D. Fats
¨ Soap is prepared by boiling caustic soda with fats or oils.
¨ During the process of saponification, the triglycerides in the fats or oils are hydrolyzed by the strong base (caustic soda or sodium hydroxide) to form soap (a salt of a fatty acid) and glycerol (a trihydroxy alcohol). The soap is then separated from the mixture and used for cleaning purposes.
