¨ White phosphorus is a highly reactive, waxy, and translucent substance that ignites spontaneously in air. It emits a glowing greenish-white light when exposed to oxygen and can cause severe burns and tissue damage if it comes into contact with skin. In addition, white phosphorus vapors can cause lung damage if inhaled. Due to its toxicity, white phosphorus has been banned in some countries for use in warfare.
