¨ Chlorine is a strong oxidizing agent and is widely used as a bleaching agent in various industries, such as paper and textile industries. It works by breaking down the color-causing molecules in the substance being bleached. Chlorine is usually used in the form of sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite, which are added to water to form a solution called bleach.
The most common forms of bleach are:
