Which ion will have maximum value of heat of hydration

A. Al+3
B. Cs+
C. Ba+
D. Mg+2

¨       Aluminum ion (Al+3) has a high charge density due to its small size and high positive charge, which results in a strong electrostatic attraction between the ion and the water molecules. This leads to a high value of heat of hydration for Al+3.

¨       On the other hand, Cs+ and Ba+ have larger sizes and lower charges, which result in weaker electrostatic attraction between the ion and water molecules. This leads to lower values of heat of hydration for Cs+ and Ba+ compared to Al+3.

¨       Mg+2 has a smaller size and higher charge compared to Cs+ and Ba+, which result in a higher value of heat of hydration compared to Cs+ and Ba+ but lower than Al+3.
